Hanan Ibrahim
Hanan Ibrahim is a Postbaccalaureate Research Fellow at the National Cancer Institute in Maryland, supported by the NIH Cancer Research Training Award, where she studies HIV assembly and maturation. She graduated Magna Cum Laude in May 2025, from the University of South Florida with dual degrees in Biomedical Sciences and Africana Studies. She was a member of the Judy Genshaft Honors College where she also completed an Honors Thesis on commercial and traditional malaria treatment practices in Ethiopia and Kenya. Although born in Maryland, Hanan spent her formative years raised in Ethiopia and Kenya before relocating to Florida for college. Hanan’s early experiences shaped her dedication to global health, infectious disease research, and culturally responsive care.
Throughout her academic career, Hanan earned multiple distinctions; including the prestigious Golden Bull Award, the Honors College’s Dean’s Circle of Merit Award in Service, and repeated Dean’s List recognition. She is interested in pursuing a career as an MD/PhD, that involves a combination of clinical medicine and patient care, as well as research combining basic science and global health. Her research interests lie particularly with HIV, HPV, and health equity. Hanan previously served as a Medical Support Team Intern with EnVision Resolution, contributing to community health screenings, outreach initiatives, and grant development, and now continues her service-driven work as a board member supporting the organization’s mission to improve chronic disease outcomes in underserved communities.
